Donald Vs. Rosie

NEW YORK  —  Donald Trump fanned the flames of his smoldering feud with "The View" co-host Rosie O'Donnell on FOX News Channel Thursday, calling her "a loser," "a bully" and "a despicable person" who might be "jealous that Miss USA likes me and doesn't like her.""Rosie's a loser, and somebody has to fight back," Trump said. "I really like Barbara Walters. Believe me — Barbara Walters, in my opinion, rues the day that she put that animal on her show because that show will go down the tubes. You watch."Trump, speaking late Thursday afternoon on FOX News Channel, said, "Rosie will end up killing the show, everything she touches turns to garbage.""Rosie is a bully. I hit her between the eyes, she's worried about being sued, and her response today was nothing," said Trump. "She's not a very smart person, if you look at her IQ I guarantee you it's not up there."O'Donnell was invited to appear on FOX News Channel to respond to Trump's attack, but she declined. She did, however, respond to Trump's earlier comment that he could steal her girlfriend, Kelli, by bringing Kelli into "The View" audience Thursday. "I was afraid to leave her at home in case someone with a comb-over came and stole her from me," she said."Frankly, here's my comment to him," O'Donnell added, making a sour face.Co-host Joy Behar also got in on the fight, referring to FOX News' reporting on her comparison of Donald Rumsfeld to Adolph Hitler."It's a slow news week, I think, because FOX News is all over my a--," Behar said. "Now I consider that a compliment. That's like being on Nixon's enemies list."Trump also made comments on FOX about O'Donnell's Thursday appearance on "The View.""She was a stumbling buffoon today on 'The View,' Trump said. "She's stumbling, she's fumbling, she's not the same Rosie that she was yesterday."Earlier on FOX News, Trump said he'd sue O'Donnell."I guarantee I'll have a lot of Rosie's money right out of her big fat pocket, I'll have a lot of Rosie's money coming into my pocket," Trump said. "That's my prediction."On "The View" Wednesday, O'Donnell said Trump's news conference with Miss USA Tara Conner had annoyed her "on a multitude of levels." Trump decided to give Conner a second chance after she was accused of underage drinking and using drugs."Left the first wife, had an affair, left the second wife, had an affair. Had kids both times, but he's the moral compass for 20-year-olds in America," the comedian and actress said to roars of audience laughter. "Donald, sit and spin, my friend."Trump lashed back at O'Donnell Wednesday night on several entertainment shows."Rosie is somebody out of control who really just doesn't have it," Trump said in an interview on Access Hollywood's Web site. "And she ought to be careful 'cause I'll send one of my friends to pick up her girlfriend, and I think it would be very easy."On the TV entertainment show "The Insider," he criticized everything from her looks to her former television talk show and magazine."Rosie attacks me personally? I know her fairly well because her show failed. She didn't retire. She didn't get the ratings! Her magazine called 'Rosie' was a total disaster," he said."She's out of her mind. I will probably sue Rosie for a number of reasons. I'm worth a lot of money. She doesn't tell the facts," he added. In an interview with the TV entertainment show "Extra," O'Donnell blasted the Trump-Conner news conference as a publicity stunt, declaring, “I think everything that Donald does is a ploy to promote the Trump business. That’s the bottom line. I don’t think he really cares about this young girl.”She continued, “I just think he’s [Trump] a hot bag of wind, frankly, with bad hair.”Added Behar: “She’s saying watching him on television is like eating at Taco Bell.”"The View" executive producers, Bill Geddie and Barbara Walters (who called in from vacation), issued this statement:"Both Rosie and Donald are high-spirited, opinionated people. Donald has been a friend of "The View" for many years and Rosie, of course, is our enormously popular moderator. We cherish them both and hope the new year brings calm and peace."

Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz call it quits!

For Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake, it was all over but the press release.

Cue the publicists.

In a joint statement issued on behalf of the celebrity couple Thursday, Diaz and Timberlake confirmed the biggest non-secret in Hollywood: They're no longer a celebrity couple.

"We have, in fact, ended our romantic relationship, and have done so mutually and as friends, with continued love and respect for one another," the statement said.

Diaz and Timberlake said they would have preferred to avoid the press-release route—"out of respect for the time we've spent together."

The ex-twosome chalked up their confirmation letter as a response to "recent speculation" and "inaccurate stories that are being reported by the media."

Diaz, 34, and Timberlake, 25, didn't note why or when they broke up, leaving "recent speculation" to do the job.

According to the buzz, Diaz and Timberlake uncoupled last month. The Jan. 22 Us Weekly narrows the split to some time after Timberlake hosted Saturday Night Live on Dec. 16 to sometime before a Diaz Christmas getaway to Vail, Colorado.

Diaz and Timberlake were a couple for more than three years, having begun dating in 2003.

No strangers to breakup rumors or when-will-they-marry speculation, Diaz and Timberlake were unusually tight-lipped when the New Year brought new reports that they were kaput.

The ex-couple watch intensified when Timberlake attended the Jan. 3 premiere of his new movie, Alpha Dog, minus Diaz. Even Tuesday's People's Choice Awards couldn't bring the pair together: Diaz attended the Los Angeles gala in person; Timberlake appeared via satellite—from nearby Anaheim.

Timberlake, who friends insist to Us Weekly was a one-star man while dating Diaz, seemingly has wasted no time getting his sexy back.

Last week, E! Online columnist Ted Casablanca reported Timberlake was spotted at the Alpha Dog post-premiere party in the company of Scarlett Johansson, with whom he shot a video, "What Goes Around," right after Christmas.

The music-video casting of Johansson, 22, was cited by Us Weekly as the "final straw" for the Diaz-Timberlake tandem, with Diaz said to be jealous of the younger actress and Timberlake said to be tired of Diaz's jealousy.

Timberlake and Johansson, recently uncoupled from Josh Hartnett, have copped to no more than a friendship.

Timberlake is likewise "friends, nothing more," his rep recently told E! Online senior editor Marc Malkin, with Kate Hudson, recently divorced from rocker Chris Robinson, and recently uncoupled from reputed beau Owen Wilson. Timberlake was among the New Year's revelers who rang in 2007 at the Los Angeles home of Hudson, 27.

Diaz, meanwhile, is said by Us Weekly to be commiserating with Charlie's Angels costar Drew Barrymore, recently uncoupled from Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti.

Removing himself from the breakup vortex that is currently Hollywood, Timberlake is scheduled to be some 340 miles north on Thursday night for the San Jose, California, date of his arena tour.

Diaz, who appeared in only three movies during her Timberlake era, won't appear in another one this year, per the Internet Movie Database, though she'll be heard as the voice of Princess Fiona in Shrek the Third, due out this summer.

During their run as a couple, Diaz and Timberlake never appeared more united than when they banded together against paparazzi, with whom they occasionally legally tangled. The most recent incident came last September, when Diaz accused a photog of trying to hit her and Timberlake with a car.

Diaz and Timberlake also sounded as if they were on the same page about marriage: Neither wanted one.

"I'm a commitment phobe," Diaz said on the Ellen DeGeneres Show last November. "Don’t want to do it."

And now she won't have to. Not with Timberlake, anyway.

Spears named most controversial celeb of the year

Britney takes the prize

Hollywood, 2006. The year that made it seem like "celebrity" was a synonym for "controversial."

The over-the-top antics of the likes of Mel Gibson, Michael Richards, Tom Cruise, Anna Nicole Smith, Naomi Campbell, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Madonna, Star Jones and Britney Spears provided non-stop fun and follies on which we feasted. But in the end, after much thought, "Showbiz Tonight" on CNN Headline News has named
Britney Spears the "Most Controversial Celebrity of 2006."

Why Britney? Why not Mel Gibson, whose anti-Semitic, drunken rant shook us to our senses and reminded us once again that hate can live in the heart (I'm not one of those who believes it was the liquor doing the talking for Mel)?

And why not Michael Richards, whose n-word explosion on a comedy stage ignited great debate about the proper and improper use of the n-word, as if there really is a proper use that should be considered acceptable?

"Showbiz Tonight" set four specific criteria that a celebrity had to meet before deciding who was the most controversial of the year:

  • Does the mention of their very name spark a visceral reaction?
  • Which celebrity provoked the most continuous shock and outrage from their antics over the course of the entire year?
  • Which celebrity generated the most continued interest through the year?
  • And, finally, did their actions leave any lasting impact?

More than any other celebrity, Britney scored off the charts.

Spears' first big controversy of the year came in February when she was photographed driving her SUV in Malibu with her infant son, Sean Preston, in her lap, instead of a car seat. Even the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Norman Mineta, expressed outrage, saying “while Ms. Spears has acknowledged her mistake, her actions still send the wrong message to millions of her fans."

In April, Spears again generated headlines when social services officials in Los Angeles investigated a report that Sean Preston was injured after falling from his high chair.

In June, a frazzled-looking Spears was interviewed on "Dateline NBC" to discuss everything from her emotional state to rumors her marriage to Kevin Federline was in trouble.

In August, jaws dropped again when a pregnant Spears posed nude for the cover of Harper’s Bazaar. And soon after giving birth to her second child with Federline in September, Spears announced she was divorcing her husband. Her announcement on Election Day, November 7, generated headlines so big that in some newspapers it battled the news that the election had led to a change in Congress' balance of power!

Spears finished off the year with her headline-making partying with the likes of Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan, being photographed repeatedly without panties, and becoming the most searched-for person on the Internet (according to Yahoo). Her actions have people talking about everything from proper parenting to concern over the influence and sway she still holds over millions of impressionable young fans.

Britney Spears is like an ongoing mini-series with no end. I've already set my TiVo for 2007.
